How lovely to meet the knitters last week at Addicted to Fabric’s first Sit and Knit session. A varied collected of woollen items emerged from the projects bags. Beautiful socks and scarves and fun conversation. We chatted through our knitting journey, our favourite makes and our biggest knitting disasters. Who can forget the ‘oversized’ jumper that you didn’t do a swatch for that you thought…. oh well, if I pop it in the washing machine it will shrink a bit won’t it???? Eeek! At least we all agreed that these disasters lead to a good story for the future and a lesson learnt….. don’t try that again!
I also had the pleasure of guiding one member through patterns available here to find the perfect new baby hat pattern and yarn so she could start the project right away. How lovely it is to be able to gift a handmade item to a friend. And what fun it is choosing colours, there’s only so many things I can knit myself and I love helping others choosing colours to put together.
Needles…… who else admits to buying a new pair when they are at the yarn store and have found the most divine yarn and an exciting pattern that you want to start right away? Not wanting to waste time by going home and checking precisely which circular needle size and length you have in your collection you buy another pair! We were wondering whether in the future we ought to have a knitting needle amnesty and swap session. That, or come in to Addicted to Fabric and we will get you sewing that knitting needle case you keep telling yourself you’ll make but never actually have the time to get round to. There’s always something else, and other work in progress that gets your attention first!
This week we talked about carving out a special ‘me time’ moment during the week to get creative. One of our group wakes up early and knits in the dawn, what a lovely way to start the day before the rest of the world has bustling.
What a great start to what we hope will become a vibrant yarn community here at Addicted to Fabric. Why don’t you come and join us each week?
